🥋 **Grading Pathway – Cobra CMMA**

At R&R Martial Arts, we follow the official Cobra CMMA grading pathway. Every belt earned reflects your progress, dedication, and skills — and every student earns their grade through real achievement.

🌀 **How Our Grading Works**

Traditionally, clubs hold formal gradings every 3–6 months. But not all students train the same number of hours, and not everyone progresses at the same pace. Some may face health limitations or miss sessions. That’s why we use the **CMAA Progressive Grading System (PGS)** — a flexible, fair, and ability-conscious system.

✅ **The PGS Approach:**

- Techniques are taught and assessed **gradually in class**
- Once a student demonstrates a technique **3 times without error**, it’s signed off
- Students focus more on what they personally need — no pressure, no mass assessments
- If a student struggles with a few techniques, these can be **deferred** and revisited later — no one is left behind

---

🎓 **Graduation Grading**

Once all techniques for a belt are signed off, students will be invited to attend a **graduation-style grading session**. At this session, they’ll demonstrate a **random selection of techniques** from their level in front of the instructor. Once completed, they’ll receive:

- ✅ Their new belt
- ✅ An official Cobra CMMA certificate
- ✅ Recognition in front of peers

This keeps the standard high — and the celebration personal.

---

💷 **Grading Fees £25.00**

Grading fees are only due once a student has completed the requirements and is ready to graduate. This fee covers:

- The physical belt
- Certification from Cobra Martial Arts Association
- Recording of progress

There’s no set time requirement — **progress is based on skill, not the calendar**. Train more, grow faster.

🥋 Proficiency Awards & Life Skills

(CMAA-Recognised Life Skills Programme)

At R&R FMA we believe martial arts is about more than kicks and punches — it’s about developing strong, respectful, and capable individuals.

Alongside belt gradings, our students can work towards CMAA-recognised Proficiency Awards, celebrating valuable life skills such as safety awareness, confidence, and leadership.

Each topic is explored in class through age-appropriate discussion, demonstrations, and activities.

Certificates are awarded to recognise progress and encourage positive habits both in and out of the dojo.

Our 10 Proficiency Subjects

  1. First Aid & Dealing with Emergencies
Learning what to do if someone is hurt or unwell — including how to stay calm, get help, and call 999.
  2. Bully Aware
Understanding what bullying looks like, how it affects others, and how to speak up safely or support a friend.
  3. Knife & Weapons Awareness
An age-appropriate look at the dangers and consequences of carrying or using weapons such as knives or sticks.
Students learn to make safe choices, respect the purpose of training equipment, and stay aware in the community.
  4. Stranger Danger & Online Safety
Personal safety in both the real world and online — learning about boundaries, privacy, and recognising unsafe behaviour.
  5. Local Services Knowledge
Knowing where to turn for help — identifying important contact numbers for doctors, hospitals, utilities, and the police.
  6. Healthy Choices & Drug Awareness
Understanding the difference between healthy and unhealthy things we put in our bodies — from food and drink to medicines and harmful substances — and learning to make responsible choices.
  7. Mindfulness & Emotional Control
Simple breathing and focus exercises that help children manage emotions, stay calm under pressure, and build resilience.
  8. Excellent School Term Report
Awarded for positive school reports showing effort, kindness, and respect for teachers and classmates.
This award is ongoing and can be earned repeatedly — the more great reports achieved, the better the record!
  9. Good Student Award
Recognising students who consistently show good attitude, effort, teamwork, and respect in class.
  10. Leadership & Teamwork
Encouraging older students to be positive role models — helping younger members, assisting warm-ups, and showing what “Resilience & Respect” looks like in action.

How It Works

Students work towards one subject at a time throughout the year.

Each topic focuses on practical knowledge, community awareness, and character development, helping children grow into well-rounded martial artists.

Certificates are presented in class to celebrate achievement and motivate continued learning.
