What to Expect in Your First Session

Starting something new can feel exciting and a little nerve wracking — especially for children. At R&R; Martial Arts, we aim to make every first session welcoming, calm, and supportive so students can settle in at their own pace.

Before You Arrive

Please arrive around 10 minutes early to allow time to settle in and ask any questions.

Wear comfortable sports clothing suitable for movement.

A club uniform is not required for trial sessions. Uniforms are only needed once a CMAA licence is purchased from the 4th session.

During the Session

Sessions begin with a gentle warm up and clear explanations of what will be covered.

Techniques are taught step by step with safety and control as the priority.

Students are encouraged to try their best — there is no pressure to be perfect.

Children who feel nervous are supported and given time to build confidence.

Parents & Carers

Parents of children aged 5–11 must remain on the premises for the duration of the session.

Parents are welcome to join in and train alongside their child if they wish.

If not training, parents should remain accessible inside the hall or designated viewing area.

After the Session

The instructor will be happy to answer any questions and discuss next steps.

There is no obligation to commit immediately — we want families to feel comfortable and confident.

If continuing, guidance will be given on memberships, CMAA licensing, and uniform ordering.

Our goal is for every student to leave their first session feeling supported, encouraged, and proud of themselves for taking the first step
